tool time!, chicken soup, claymation, and “friends”

Monday, October 31st, 2005

mmm a good weekend…

i finally have a toilet paper holder in my bathroom! :-) after a couple weeks of ghettoness (i was getting used to it actually), i finally put up the $2 TP holder from ikea. looks quite nice, was feeling quite handy after “helping” (i.e. standing around holding things :-) ) talida put up her shelf in her room and then putting up my TP holder. yay! reminded me of tool time!

made chicken soup friday night, with those yummy red dots too! first time making it with a slow cooker. i love slow cookers! i want to make EVERYTHING in a slow cooker! it’s just too convenient!

finally went and saw wallace and gromit, i liked! kind of scary in some parts… but overall pretty good. i love gromit, he’s so cute. i wish i could do claymation

lastly….. logged onto friendster friday night ’cause changer banger said to add her as my friend :-P haha, realized i hadn’t logged into friendster in forever. also logged into orkut and facebook for the heck of it. realized a lot of people had updated and i hadn’t ever logged back in to see. i have all these accounts (i’m a follower, everyone’s doing it :-) ) but i don’t bother ever using them. i have some “friends” listed on these places, but i don’t do a very good job keeping in contact with them :-( it’s just too much work! how effective are these friendster/facebook/orkut like things in helping people keep in touch? they seem like a good idea… having an online directory where you can search for old friends and see how they’re doing and it seems as if a lot of people use it so that provides a good base of friends to connect to, but who actually uses them to keep in touch with friends? i think it just makes it easier for stalking… the friends you really keep in touch with, you keep in touch with without using those services right? so then u really only use those services to stalk people who u’re curious about but who u don’t keep in touch with! stalking!!!!

Mowing proposal gets girl

HILLSBORO, North Dakota (AP) — It’s the thought that counts when it comes to a marriage proposal.

Chris Mueller, 25, was nearly finished etching the big question into a harvested soybean field when he realized the ‘m’ in ‘marry’ took up too much room.

Since he couldn’t erase a plowed field, he had a decision to make.

“I figured it would look better to spell it wrong and get a laugh out of it, rather than botch it all,” Mueller told the Grand Forks Herald. “I could have fit all the letters in, but it would have looked tacky.”

Instead, it read: “KATIE WILL YOU MARY ME?”

Mueller’s next step involved taking his girlfriend, Katie Goltz, for an airplane ride under the guise of looking for deer. At first, she missed the misspelling. Goltz was caught up in the message.

“I scanned it, noticed what it said and was speechless,” she said. “I said ‘yes’ and cried like all girls do.”

But on closer inspection, Goltz realized “marry” was a letter short.

“I thought it was so sweet that he spelled it wrong,” she said. “I thought it made it more cute and more special.”

Mueller’s father, Tom, twice used fieldwork to send romantic messages to his wife, Diane.

HOT wings

Sunday, October 23rd, 2005

so on friday i ordered “spicy crab” wings from a place right by my house. i ordered from this place previously (when everyone was in town for dave and tope’s wedding) and it wasn’t that spicy. it basically was crab seasoning. the wings were brown colored.

so i was a bit surprised when i opened my box of wings and saw that my wings were a bright dark red. hrm… this isn’t the same spicy crab wings i had the first time! so i think they gave me someone else’s wings, bah!! the wings being insanely spicy…. my eyes were watering, my nose was runny, my lips were on fire! i contemplated going back to the wings place but my mouth was on fire too much! i couldn’t even go a few seconds without drinking something. i had to rub ice all over my lips to cool them down. AND i was hungry! so i stupidly continued to eat the wings.

bahh, i’m so stupid when i’m hungry! for people who eat really spicy, i highly recommend the wings place by my apartment though! i’m just not sure what wings i ended up eating…

crunked up percolated NC style?

Monday, October 17th, 2005

updated with pictures!

blue hair!

for more pictures, visit here

this weekend, i…

  • flew on a tiny plane… like the types where u have to climb up the stairs to board, a la president/queen/famous people.
  • got “crunked up percolated NC style” (to use the words of angela)… note to self: don’t drink on an empty stomach. also, don’t ever trust friends who tell you it’s just lemonade…. ’cause it’s NOT. it doesn’t even taste like lemonade.
  • discovered mariam is REALLY mean. i always knew she was mean, but she’s REALLY mean. she actually hit me on my rump when i was sleeping :-( jerk…. just kidding mariam! :-P
  • woke up at 9am on saturday and sunday, but because mariam is mean (she threatened to punch me in the face if i woke her up :-( so mean!), i had to staaaaaaarve until 3pm on saturday (and i woke up hungry!) and sit quietly bored out of my mind until noon on sunday.
  • bought a blue hair hat (think dr. seuss’ thing one, thing two kinda of hair) :-D
    thing one thing two
  • wasted $25 and three hours of blood, sweat and tears painting a stupid 3D monkey mug that will look like a 5 year old did it in 2 minutes! arrrghhh! we needed to kill a hour of time so we thought painting would be a nice, stressfree activity like when we were kids. psh! what were we thinking?!?! the first sign should’ve been when they were like “here are some design books for you to get ideas for.” dude, when i painted in elementary school, it was a flat dog statue and it was brown… ALL of it, JUST brown…. no design patterns needed! cindy almost had a nervous breakdown picking a design and colors. three hours later, we finaaally finished. i nearly broke my mug when i put it down emphatically as i finished. total cost of the evening… ~$90 for 2 mugs, 1 beer stein, and 1 picture frame!!! the lady must have hated us for cursing so much and bashing the place left and right. we were so bitter we couldn’t even walk by the store later in the evening.
  • discovered that there is NO bbq place open past 8pm on a saturday night or sunday!! more bitterness towards painting followed.
  • got a manicure done. after angela and larry left, cindy, mariam and i went shopping and randomly decided getting manicure would be fun since cindy and i had never gotten one before. right when she said we should go pick colors, my brain shut down. cindy started getting shortness of breath. bad idea! i ended up getting a chocolate-looking brown (mmm, i want to lick my fingers) that mariam handed to me (goood thing she didn’t hand me some random weird color because i probably would’ve chose it to avoid making a color decision anyways), cindy got a pretty pink color and mariam got a lighter pink color. but since they did us all separately and cindy and i had never gotten ones done, we didn’t know what to do. cindy got in trouble for not being relaxed enough and i got in trouble for trying to pick up my purse… she had to retouch one of my nails. according to mariam, she was shaking her head and glaring at me :-(
  • had lots of fun :-)

arrgh!!!

arrrgh!! so frustrated at work!

as if i weren’t a bad enough programmer to begin with, i’m trying to program in a language i don’t really know! a one week crash course on it kind of helped, but not really!! and then my first exposure to it is with this piece of crap software! it’s so convoluted! i wasted 3 days this week trying to open a stupid file to write to… and for some strange reasonnnnnnn, i had pass parameters through THREE programs just to open the *!&@( file!! now that the file is open (still not open properly but who cares!?)…. i don’t know how to write hard returns, so i have one line in my file that is 370,433 bytes long!!

i’m the slowest learner in the world. i miss me my java :-(
