always need a baseball bat

Friday, April 28th, 2006

i almost bought a bat last weekend. sports authority was having a sale along with a friends and family coupon. there was a bat on sale for $20 (who cares if it’s a “youth” bat, a bat’s a bat right?) it was sold out so i couldn’t get it. i need a bat because tina and talida are getting increasingly weirder and weirder :-P

last night, i got home kind of late with tina. talida was already home. so at around 3ish, when i was just about to fall asleep, i hear sounds coming from the front door. i freaked out! everything sounds louder from my room so it sounded really loud! someone trying to get in, someone walking in, someone moving around the front lobby area.

i didn’t know what to do. i didn’t have a bat yet!! my tennis racquet was still in my car. i threw away the power supply which i use to kill many a bug so i had nothing big and heavy to swing. i decided to just blind the person by quickly turning on the lights so i creeped up the stairs and was about to run out of my room and turn on the living room lights.

it was just julie and isaac.

too bad i didnt have a bat yet. just kidding :-P

name thingamabob

got this off of ann’s blog. thought it was pretty fun because it doesn’t really work out for chinese names… or at least not my family’s. plus, the whole having a letter as a middle name makes for weird answers too

1. YOUR ROCK STAR NAME: (first pet and current street name)
Speedy Harleyford

2. YOUR MOVIE STAR NAME: (grandfather/grandmother on your dad’s side, your favorite candy)
Shi Fei Now and Laters (this was a toughie… now and laters are my current favorite candy)

3. YOUR “FLY GIRL/GUY” NAME: (first initial of first name, first two or three letters of your middle name)
CH

4. YOUR DETECTIVE NAME: (favorite animal, favorite color)
Monkey Blue

5. YOUR SOAP OPERA NAME: (middle name, city where you were born)
H Fairfax

6. YOUR STAR WARS NAME: (first 3 letters of your last name, last 2 letters of mother’s maiden name, first 3 letters of your pet’s name)
Hsingsag (used my bunny Sagamuzza’s name instead of Speedy the Hermit Crab)

7. JEDI NAME: (middle name spelled backwards, your mom’s maiden name spelled backwards
Hgnauh

8. PORN STAR NAME: (middle name, street you grew up on)
H Tuckahoe

9. SUPERHERO NAME: (“The”, your favorite color, the automobile you drive)
The Blue Camry

i like my detective name :-P

i don’t read email

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

i just realized i don’t do a good job of reading email

i used to have ckimail as part of my login script at cmu so when i logged into any server, new message subject lines would appear before i even had to go into pine. but since i rarely read all my emails, it got to the point that it would take me a few extra minutes to get into the command prompt because the messages would be scrolling across my screen. then there was that time for networks when we had to demo our project and i couldn’t log into any of the machines in wean because when i logged in, i would crash my own account. i think maybe it had to do with the emails… (linux/unix confuses me, someone set it up for me and since i didn’t know how they set it up, i never removed it) angela used to make fun of me because of the emails :(

currently, there are 380 new messages in my gmail account. they’re not spam or anything, just new emails i never got around to reading. i think talida saw my gmail mailbox one time and thought i had a lot of spam. no…

now at my job, i have 1243 new messages in my inbox and 1019 new messages that were filtered into a separate mailbox. i actually get a lot of “junk” work emails, automated result messages generated by the scripts. otherwise, i think my mailbox would be a heck of a lot cleaner. but yea… i don’t like to read emails.

i think when angela saw all my emails once she asked me why i didn’t just delete them. it’s ’cause i miiight eventually need to read those emails! she said she had a friend who was also similar to me, with a bunch of unread messages. but he would occassionally just select all the messages and delete them without reading, figuring that if it was important, he would’ve already read it. anyone else like this?

new job = babies!?

Friday, April 21st, 2006

i’ve noticed a weird coincidence… whenever i start work, there seems to be a lot of baby births.

when i first started working at my previous job, there were 2 pregnant ladies sitting right by me both due about 2-3 months after I started. another one of my coworkers had just given birth to a baby girl. AND within a few months of starting, a second coworker got pregnant. these were all people i worked with.

now at my current job, TWO babies were born my first week… and TWO babies born TODAY. in total, in the four weeks i’ve been at my job, there’s been FIVE babies born. my big manager is expecting his first daughter in august. on the bulletin board in the hallway, there’s even a “project plan” like poster announcing expected due dates for some babies on my floor (3 were listed). fortunately, not all these babies are direct coworkers…. but still, that’s a lot of babies!

weird coincidence!

scientologists

Friday, April 21st, 2006

on my way to work today, some lady handed me a card. she wasn’t terribly friendly, though she was smiling. after she had passed, i took a look at the card. it was a church of scientology card!! well, then i was really disappointed. from my wide experience with scientologists (none), i thought they’d be a bit friendlier, more excitable or something. at least i thought maybe they’d be like that south park episode! :-P

well the back of the card had a little test to find out:

“How Toxic Are You?” <– i got excited and thought they were talking about britney’s toxic song

Have you felt fatigued now and then for no apparent reason?
Do you ever feel “wooden” or lifeless?
Have you ever experienced drug “flashbacks”?
Do you feel less alert than you used to?
Do you sometimes get a feeling of lightheadedness or a feeling of being spaced out?
Do you feel irritable without reason or cause?
Do you have unexplained aches and pains?
Do you find it difficult to get excited about people and things?
Do you find you feel anxious but don’t know why?
Do you have trouble learning new things even when you are interested in them?

If you answered yes to 3 or less, you could have a level of accumulated toxins affecting your capacity to think clearly.
If you answered yes to 4-7 of the above questions, you could have a detrimental level of accumulated toxins, making you dull, lifeless or “wooden” with lessened ability.
If you answered yes to 8 or more of these questions, you could be experiencing a case of severe body pollution.

so if i’m reading this correctly… even if i answered yes to ZERO of the above questions, i could have a level of accumulated toxins affecting my capacity to think clearly?

comment responses

Friday, April 14th, 2006

so i noticed that some people ask questions in comments. and some times, i actually respond with a comment (probably because i have nothing better to do with my time :-) ), but 9 times out of 10, i don’t bother.

well, i’m bored today. so here goes….

talida: yes
Aznslaya7: wow, i didn’t realize i was in such a small minority. i really just didn’t have the patience or appreciation for those movies
talida: not how crazy tina and i have become, it’s how crazy tina and YOU have become
julie: tina and talida are both bullies… they bully everyone
Ren-Yi: ewww, contacts can get curled under the eyelid?!
talida: hahah alf
Ren-Yi: do germans not use lunchboxes!? how do they bring their lunches?!
ann: so they still occassionally play some oldies songs i like (because it’s still classic rock) but i really like the 50s and 60s hits and they’ve stopped playing those as often now :-( i dunno what other station to listen to!
sealmar06: wha?! wrist injury due to snowboarding?! ahhh, i quit
Tim: working in DC!
Wayne: yea… i just bought seafarers :-P the booklet said 90 minutes, but those early games when u’re just learning to play the game always take twice/three times as long
Julie: i wish i had a strategy… but i don’t. both times, i had longest road, but unintentionally (just needed to unload cards). i also usually didn’t have too many cities :-( and of course i trumped them by a lot because i am GREAT at the game (actually, no :-/ one game was really close. the other game, they were all saying i was supposed to win and i was in position to win for a long time… hahah, ’cause my unintentionally longest road ended up killing everyone’s chances at expanding. but yeah… by the time i actually won, everyone had inched closer, 8 or 9 points each probably)
Stephanie C: nope, that stephanie is actually psycho. i don’t know why she used that other name, just adds to the confusion
Sarah: yup, i no longer work there :-)
jason: yup! i had a corporate card :-P
vicky: yeah! let’s meet up! there’s so many food places near me!!

i wish the weekend would come faster!!

google adsense

Monday, April 10th, 2006

so i just setup google adsense on my webpage (click the banner above and help me out! :-) )

i gotta say, google is really good at targetting its ads… i don’t quite know why i have (as of this post) billy joel themed ads on the main page, but on a whim, i went into each individual post to see what ads i get…

weekend of scariness – all rock climbing ads
lunchboxes – lunchbox ads, even vintage lunchbox ads!
blogroll – mc hammer & curious george bags – monkey ads… they knew curious george was a monkey!
brain cells – accident and health insurance ads
snowboarding – snowboarding ads
2nd best day of m… no, maybe not – settlers of catan ads!

wow, pretty accurate!

weekend of scariness

Monday, April 10th, 2006

so this weekend, a lot of scary things happened.

on saturday, because we were going nuts (seriously, my housemates have regressed to elementary school. they’re hitting and making fun of each other. sheesh, it sure is hard being the only mature one!), talida and i went rock climbing. so actually, at first we just rushed out of the house wanting to get out and do something and actually drove away from dick’s (where we eventually rock climbed) before deciding we’d give it a try and turned around. aaactually, i lied and just wanted to see talida rock climb, but knew if i told her that, she’d not want to rock climb… in any case, we went rock climbing.

we’re both scared of heights. yeaaah, so rock climbing wasn’t the smartest thing to do. i took the easiest path on the wall and talida took the 2nd easiest. my guy knew i was a beginner though so talida said that some times they’ll help u by pulling you up as you’re climbing. we made it about half way up the wall when we both got stuck and tired. that’s when i looked down and nearly pee-ed in my pants. i also made the mistake of starting to climb without asking how i’d come down. apparently, u’re just supposed to let go of the wall and fall??? (a controlled fall of course, but still a fall) yeaa… no

2nd scary thing that happened this weekend was BOTH my contacts got stuck in my eyes. i spent nearly half a hour trying to get them out of my eyes but they were stuck there! (incidentally, they were the most comfortable and clearest i can recall) i tried rewetting drops… i tried saline solution… nothing! i tried closing my eyes to get them to move around, i tried keeping my eyes open without blinking to see if they’d dry out and pop out! eventually, i freaked out and bugged my roommate who told me to use her rewetting drops (do they make a difference?)… apparently that did the trick. still, i was afraid i’d be stuck with contacts on forever!! FORRRRRRRRREVER! they really wouldn’t move! even when i tried to nudge them or move them around in my eye! i hate bad vision :-(

lunchboxes

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

was in the car driving with talida today and we got to discussing lunchboxes. i think it might be because we were talking about old cartoons we used to watch (or at least that topic has been on my mind lately because of bryan’s forum) so i started thinking of my old lunchboxes and tried to find images of them on google. unfortunately, i wasnt able to find my first lunchbox.

my first lunchbox was in montessori. it was a pink strawberry shortcake lunchbox. the bottom part of the lunchbox was a solid light pink. the top was semi transparent/clear. and then there was a picture of strawberry shortcake…. i’m pretty sure it was strawberry shortcake, but all the strawberry shortcake lunchboxes i saw while searching looked nothing like my lunchbox! anyone out there remember such a lunchbox from circa 1986?

my second lunchbox was in kindergarten. it was a purple glo worm lunchbox. i used to love that tv show! … though now i can barely remember any of it at all. here’s a picture of the lunchbox i used to have:

glo worm lunchbox

after that, i can’t remember having a lunchbox! i think i started using brown paper bags. in 5th or 6th grade, my sister gave me a canvas lunchbox that said something like “save the earth” and had a picture of the globe on it.

what lunchboxes did you all have growing up?!
