you can’t teach an old dog new tricks…
Friday, December 1st, 2006at my old job, i sat right by one of the side doors. while the door had a knob, it also had one of those door jams/locks where you wouldn’t need to turn the knob in order for the door to open. you’d need to merely push the door and it’d open. i got used to going in and out of this door many times a day. several other doors worked like this too – the conference room doors for example. the front doors to the floor were glass push doors.
it got to the point that i would assume all doors on the floor worked in this same fashion. they didn’t. a few times as i was leaving the printer (on the opposite side of the floor so i would cut through the elevator lobby, thus needing to go out one side door and in another), i would run straight into the door, thinking that it would give way. it did not. but at least no one saw me.
i’m at my new job now. it’s been nearly 9 months. with the exception of the bathroom door, which can just be pushed as opposed to having to turn any knob, the doors here all have knobs and functioning knobs no less! yet i still continue to try to walk straight through them!! despite reminding myself over and over to turn the knob, my laziness gets the better of me and i still try to push my way through!
unfortunately, a few times, people have seen me trying to walk through the doors. one time, the big manager who hired me even saw me walk straight into the door. he gave me a weird look… and then, talking very slowly, he said you have to turn the knob before opening the door.
oops
i bet he regrets hiring me!
